Exploring global weather through an interactive 3D globe

Traditional weather apps center everything around one city or a list of favorites: efficient, but with no direct link to the geography of the place. The idea behind Meteo Explorer was to make weather feel more tangible by connecting it visually to its position on the planet.

I built the interface around a 3D globe using react-globe.gl, a library built on Three.js/WebGL: rather than coding a 3D engine from scratch, it provides a performant interactive globe ready to receive data. Weather conditions come from Open-Meteo, a free external API — so the app doesn't need to host or compute weather data itself, only display it in the right place.

Result: an exploratory weather experience, where clicking anywhere on the globe shows real-time data, with an interface adapted for both desktop and mobile.
